Our Commitment to Organic

Making the most of the land of Kyoto, we wanted to deliver items people around the world could use with genuine peace of mind.

Here, we'd like to share the story behind our commitment to ingredients, born from that very idea, as a "Kyoto-born organic skincare brand."

"We wanted to capture something distinctly Kyoto."
"And because these are products that touch the skin directly, we wanted ingredients that felt truly safe and reliable."

With this in mind from the very moment we launched the brand, our goal was to create skincare built from a combination of Kyoto ingredients and organic materials.

Organic cosmetics are products made primarily from plants grown in soil free of synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Since Japan doesn't have a national organic certification system for cosmetics, we obtained organic certification from Qualité France in France, a country at the forefront of organic standards, and earned the Cosmebio label — one of the world's most trusted and rigorous organic cosmetics certifications.

Organic plants grown without pesticides build up a resilient vitality, protecting themselves and thriving even in harsh conditions. That same radiant life force found in these plants helps bring out the beauty our skin naturally holds.

Key Standards for Organic Certification

● For Products Certified by Qualité France and Carrying the Cosmebio Label

At least 95% of the final product (including water) uses natural or naturally derived ingredients.

At least 95% of plant-based ingredients are organic (derived from organic farming).

At least 10% of the product consists of organic (organically farmed) ingredients. (Since water, seaweed, salt, and similar ingredients aren't eligible for organic certification, the requirement is that organic ingredients make up at least 10% of the overall product.)

Products list every ingredient in full, including the percentage of organic content.

Ingredients contain no genetically modified substances, irradiated materials, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, synthetic preservatives such as parabens or phenoxyethanol, or petrochemical substances (like paraffin, silicone, or PEG) — all of which are prohibited.

Every stage of production respects the natural world, including maintaining ecological balance and prohibiting animal testing.

Packaging uses materials that are either recyclable or biodegradable.

No synthetic dyes or synthetic fragrances are used.

By meeting these rigorous standards, our products have earned the Cosmebio label.

● For Products Certified by Ecocert

● For Products Carrying the JAS Organic Mark

The JAS Organic mark features an image of the sun, clouds, and a plant.
Only products that meet the organic JAS standards set by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and carry this mark, are permitted to use the terms "organic" or "yūki" (有機) in Japan.
To qualify for organic JAS certification, a product must be grown in soil that has been free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers for at least three consecutive years, as a general rule.
This tea is produced entirely, from field cultivation through processing, using methods free from pesticide or chemical contamination, meeting the standards required for organic JAS certification.
