This year, KOTOSHINA's partner organic green tea garden in Uji once again brings us its premium sencha, made from vibrant new buds that have spent a full year gathering nutrients. Shincha (new tea) refers to the fresh buds picked around the 88th day after the start of spring. Because the number 88 pairs two "eights" — a shape traditionally considered auspicious in Japan — this tea has long been regarded as something special. 
It's said that drinking shincha can even help you live longer. Bursting with the youthful energy stored up over winter, shincha is rich in vitamins and minerals. It also contains more theanine — the amino acid responsible for sweetness — than regular tea, giving it a deep, mellow flavor without any bitterness. Theanine is also known for its calming, relaxing effect on the mind. It makes a wonderful gift for someone special, or a lovely souvenir from Kyoto.
